Today’s expression of heartfelt gratitude for hosting the grand finale of the ‘A Poetic Proposal’ blog tour goes out to John Howell.
What can I say about this man. I absolutely love his sense of humour and writing style. He has been ever present in his support, both personally, and with regard to my poetry.
John’s blog is known as ‘Fiction Favorites’ (nearly gave it a UK spelling there, sorry John. I think we’re good now). In addition to posts about his novel writing his blog includes regular weekly features such as ‘Wednesday Story day – Hump Day’, Friday’s ‘TGIF Johnku’, and ‘Stream of Consciousness Saturday’. John has been the ‘Spotlight Author’ of the week this last week for the #RaveReviewsBookClub (#RRBC), during which his many interesting posts, including ‘Question and Answers’ and ‘Interviews’ have appeared all over the blogosphere. See his introductory post here.

I do. You know why though. I am about to go walkabout for the next couple of months. Incidentally, more Americans have asked if I am Australian than if I am English.

Got it. Just was confused because I know of the timing issue you guys have to keep dealing with until ‘the deal’ is struck.

Yes. They do make things difficult. Personally I think people should be able to live anywhere if they are not going to be a burden on the state, break the law, or treat its citizens, rules, traditions, norms, religions, etc. with disrespect.

I agree. Though I think part of the challenge there is checking everyone thoroughly and in a good amount of time. This is bureaucracy and such a creature is deathly allergic to simplicity and common sense.

Absolutely. It would be nice if some of the checking could take place after residency. Initial residency is conditional anyway, generally, so just give that earlier and if people transgress, boot them.

I wonder if that happens for immigrants from some countries. Ot seems the rules are different for each one.

It certainly seems that way. I know that UK residents cannot get in on the diversity visa. They are one of the 10 or so countries that can’t because ‘too many’ have already been let in. I often think that it is really just a perception thing and the rules aren’t really different, but it all seems so subjective and convoluted it is impossible to tell.

Yes. I think it is what used to be the green card lottery and there are certain jobs, skills, etc.that rank more highly than others, but in the end it is just a raffle.

I agree. There are some pretty hard to come by skills and talents required for those positions. Sadly I shall never reach that level of prowess. My intelligence is too limited.

I can certainly understand that. Anything I write on the phone is usually onelongwordthatIhavetogoback and put spaces in, but worse than that it has random b’s and v’s where there should be spaces.

For me, I lose m’s because it’s next to the backspace. Also O and I get mixed up.

I tend to put the o with the I a lot, so my I’s end up Io, but I think that is a subconscious thing, since I will always be with Io 🙂

I have always wondered why the fonts the have a capital I (eye) and lowercase l (ell) that look the same. I find it very irritating, especially on the phone when texting.

Thank you Julian for the really nice post here. I’m with Charles on the header. You got the author and poet representation down vey well. We need to concentrate on a representation for the lewd. Maybe a photo of Charle Sheen.

It is a pleasure, John. Thank you for your help with the blog tour. That is a really good point. I hadn’t thought of the lewd side of things. Charlie Sheen would be good, and perhaps Billy Bob Thornton – especially at this time of year with the lewd film ‘Bad Santa’.
