Easter – April 16

I just thought that I would begin preparing early for Easter this year and wanted to share this book and these few thoughts with everyone.

easter 1

So what do we think about when we think of Easter, religious connotations aside?

I guess the big one is the chocolate eggs that have been out on display in stores since the day after Christmas. How could we have missed them? They come in all manner of shapes, sizes and flavours. They fill entire aisles and carry a price tag, at least the brand name ones do, that would necessitate the taking out of a significant loan. In fact, I am pretty sure that I have even seen stands set up with all the requisite application forms next to the eggs at some stores. Come on! These are chocolate eggs, and I am pretty sure they were not designed by Faberge himself. Neither, I think, were these little guys.

easter 2jpg

Anyway, moving on from my minor rant there, what else do we think of? I guess the standards are bunnies, chicks and general cute, furry, cuddly stuff. There are decorated eggs, the poor man’s version of the Faberge egg, one supposes, and baskets. Baskets of decorated eggs.

What else is there? I would value your thoughts on this. Please let me know in the comments about what images Easter conjures up for you.

Easter always evokes images of Spring, of new birth and renewal. A time of hope for the future.

Well I hope that you will forgive me for the following, extremely shameless, unabashed and even brazen, plug for an Easter coloring book.

What could be more relaxing this Easter than coloring those iconic images of Easter?

Description

Coloring is not just for kids. It has been proven to be an excellent way for adults to destress, create mindfulness and slow down from daily life, all while enjoying an activity that you can truly make your own. Every effort has been made to ensure that this is an enjoyable way to spend your time, but paper quality is something we don’t have control over with this method of publishing, so please use the included sheet of paper behind your artwork to ensure that your chosen pens or markers do not bleed through to the next page. All pages are single sided to allow for framing and to help protect the next artwork.

There is no right or wrong way to color in the images in this book, and you are free to choose the tools you wish to work with. Markers, paint, colored pencils, pens – the choices are unlimited.

Sit back and unwind and let your stress melt away while you spread color across the pages. Relax and enjoy book seventeen, ‘Easter’ of this calming series.

Hamhock Holmes and the Case of the Missing Cheese Taster

Well, it seems that the highly talented Chief Pig Officer, (C.P.O) at J and I Publishing, Sir Bacon Doughnut Royal, has added yet another string to his bow and become a published children’s author. Is there no limit to this Pig’s talent?

As a loyal employee I wanted to share this with you all and to let you know that he is working on the next adventure for the intrepid Hamhock Holmes and his trusty sidekick Agatha the Pug.

Description

“Hamhock Holmes and the Case of the Missing Cheese Taster,” is the first book in the Inspector Bacon Mystery Series for kids, ages 7-12.

Hamhock and his sidekick, Agatha the pug run a detective agency in London. When Mrs. Brie Gruyere stumbles into the office, desperate for help finding her missing husband, the head cheese taster for the Lemmington Cheese Factory, Hamhock and Pug know they have a case worth solving before them.

There’s more to this mystery than they first think. The family recipe book for the cheese factory is also missing…and there’s something skunky going on across the road.

Relying on wit, clue finding and Pug’s ability to create distraction, this mystery solving duo will stop at nothing to get the job done!

This is a chapter book for intermediate readers, with some harder words included for practise. This book has a British theme, and is mostly written in British English, so the spelling of words reflect that.

Oh for a Starry Night

A humble new collection of poetry inspired by the stars, planets and constellations, along with a healthy dose of Greek and Roman mythology. Available as an ebook and paperback.

starry night

Description

Myth, mythology and the legends of old. Stories of gods, fantastic beasts and humans. These are part of the canon of tradition and lore of the stellar constellations and heavenly bodies that make up the starry night that we see.

Experience arcane knowledge in this metaphorical pantheon where the dead gods of ages gone by are honoured poetically.

The night sky is an incredible sight. Filled with such beauty and grace, the celestial sphere is awe inspiring. This collection of poems is an attempt to capture some of that beauty and the tradition and history that have resulted in the lore that has grown up around the constellations and heavenly bodies. Heavily inspired by Greek and Roman mythology the wisdom of the ancients makes the universe in which we live a fascinating and vibrant place.

We all interact with the world around us in different ways, but this poetry is my way of sharing the connection that I feel, and the emotions that are sparked in me, by the glory of the night sky. Join me on my personal celestial adventure and the wonders of a starry night.

It should be borne in mind that there are a multitude of different myths, traditions, legends, stories and so on about each of the constellations, planets, the Gods and no one knows the true origin of a lot of the names of these. This is a fictional, poetic interpretation of some of those ideas and stories.

Excerpt:

Cancer – The Crab

Proud Hercules,
Son of Zeus born,
A dozen tasks for to complete
At Jealous Hera’s behest

To test his strength,
Courage and prowess,
To prove himself,
A worthy heir

In that second,
Charge to complete,
Battle the Hydra,
Leanon’s curse

Nine heads, regenerative,
Upon a snakes body,
Or possibly a dragons,
A truly fearsome beast

Brave Hercules battled,
The ferocious brute,
Cleaving heads,
As fast as he could

His nephew Iolas,
Seared the cuts,
Halting the growth,
Of heads anew

Bitter Hera sent a crab,
Gigantic in size,
To distract the warrior
And foil his goal

As the crab pounced,
And grabbed his foot,
Valiant Hercules,
It did crush

Severing the final,
Head absolute,
The Hydra vanquished,
Hercules victorious

Hera shamed,
Hercules honoured,
Zeus placed in the heavens,
A starry crab

Up Above

Suspended in the air,
An overarching view
Of beauty most fair,
To enter into

An old arched bridge,
Spanning a patchwork path,
A protective rail,
A merry laugh.

A watery artery,
Meanders past undulant slopes,
An exhilarating sight,
Feeding our dreams and hopes.

A forest of firs,
A vibrant firework display,
Red, green and gold,
Soothes our minds melee.

And down below,
Azaleas bloom,
Touching the banks,
With intense perfume.

Depths of the Ocean

I have always been rather fond of the ocean. Fascinated in fact. There is such a variety of life to see and interesting places to explore. I used to snorkel as a child, in the murky depths of the Atlantic ocean. Well in the shallows at least, and even there it was possible to see wonders you could never experience on dry land. In particular I have always had a fondness for fish, especially tropical fish. In fact I had a whole tank of fish of my own, all called Mr Bubbles, at one point.

So, enough of the random.

Check out the wonders and beauty of the deep in these two adult color books themed around the ocean.
